almost wild

My neighborhood of Dąbie in Kraków is situated pretty much in the middle of the city, but the river and all the green spaces make it almost wild, especially in the summer. I've been digging through some old projects, looking at "Vistopia" series I did for an exhibition for the Year of Vistula and decided to post these. I miss good weather and walks along the river there.
I've never shown "Vistopia" here, but I'm planning some changes to this (dead anyway) blog and I'll make sure to include it.

america. utopia achieved in the making

Didn't have much time to document the process of making of the latest exhibition at Krakow Art House, because we were working pretty much around the clock. But since I love documenting creative processes - here are a couple of pictures from the week prior to opening of America. Utopia Achieved, as well as a small stop motion animation of the mural I made - "Urban Dystopia".
Big thanks to everyone at Krakow Art House, to all the presenting artists, performers and everyone who came out to see our show. Pictures from the opening at Krakow Art House facebook page.
„America is neither dream nor reality. It is hyperreality. It is a hyperreality because it is a utopia which has behaved from the very beginning as though it were already achieved. Everything here is real and pragmatic, and yet it is all the stuff of dreams too. It may be the truth of America can only be seen by a European since he alone will will discover here the perfect simulacrum - that of the immanence and material transcription of all values. The Americans, for their part, have no sense of simulation. They are themselves simulation in its most developed state, but they have no language in which to describe it, since they themselves are the model. As a result, they are the ideal material for an analysis of all the possible variants of the modern world.”

This group of artists from various backgrounds; visual art, performance and music will present their works about US - the country that can delight and terrify with its concepts of liberation, domination and ecstatic joy. The works will highlight how everyday the world must face America's dark and unpredictable nature.

America. Utopia achieved. deals with the artists' existential shock after visiting the United States. It is impossible to feel indifference to this shock, while fascination and despondence arises.

beauty of polfa

In less than two weeks Bike Polo Club Kraków is organising a post-apocalyptic bike polo tournament for Halloween 2016. We're hosting it at our home court - the abandoned swimming pool of Polfa. Here are a few shots showing the beauty of this decaying place, and how nature takes its course in taking over what's no longer used by humans.
But first, have a look at the event trailer I made. Full screen + headphones recommended!

sofa underground krakow

Sofa Underground Kraków is an initiative promoting nieche bands in the city. The concerts take place at peoples' apartments or alternative venues, like this time - Spółdzielnia Ogniwo. On Friday, we had so much fun, listening to Romantic Fellas, When Whispers Explode, and of course Zdrowie™. Tremendous concerts, amazing atmosphere! Glad to be able to listen to these amazing artists and hang out with friends that friday night! Check out my thorough photo report on facebook!

MIASTA #ŻENAROWERACH //exhibition

To get to know a city one needs to ride across it back and forth on a bicycle, learn at least one local slang word, see cool hangouts, drink coffee at local specialty cafes, get to know a legend (not necessarily an urban one), see a few sunsets, and if possible sunrises.

To play bike polo one needs to ride a bicycle, find a group of two-wheel enthusiasts, a ball, mallets, large tough surface and two goals. After these preparations it's time to accept the basic rule - "don't overestimate rules", and you're ready to play. You don't know what bike polo is? C'mon! #ohonbicycles

In his works Stan Baranski combines two things. First - LOOK! Look in a way to see (know) more. Watch cities and get to know their specifics. Second - PLAY. Take part in a niche sport that dwells in urban areas.

The exhibition is a result of riding, playing and getting to know cities over the course of last couple of years. It is a subjective look at a few cities seen through the viewfinder and from a cyclist's perspective.

odd post apocalyptic market

This morning we rode out to this crazy open-air market. We didn't buy a thing. You can literally buy anything there though. Cars, car parts, bikes, hunting supplies, carpentry supplies, clothing, electronics, disco records, furniture to name a few. Truly an experience to remember, a post apocalyptic setting, and a spectacle of all kinds of garbage people are trying to sell. The very bottom of the market place. Both intriguing and scary. Have a look.
